Donating Hair

When I was little, I always had long hair. My hair was down to my waist for most of my childhood. When I was in high school, I cute it for the first time and throughout high school and college, I wore my hair shorter. In 2007 I decided that I was going to grow my hair out after going really short. (at least short for me). I kept my hair about midback from 2007-2010 and then 2010 I decided to just let it grow. In 1 year, I grew my hair back down to my waste. I always wore my hair in a pony tail or in a messy bun because it was just so long that I didn't know what to do with it.

One day at work, we were browsing on Pinterest and I found a hairstyle for one of my co-workers that I thought would look great on her. After finding her a new hairstyle, I decided that it was time for a new style for me. I went to Facebook for some ideas and a friend of mine suggested that I donate my hair. I highlight my hair and a lot of places will not take bleached hair. After researching, I found an organization call Children with Hairloss.

Children with Hairloss is an organization based out of Michigan that provides hair pieces for children. The minimum donation is 8" and they take chemically treated hair!! They aren't as big as Locks for Love, but they do the same thing.

I talked myself out of doing this and Saturday when I was browsing facebook from my phone, I saw a special at a salon in town. They were doing a free cut with any color service. I knew that if I was going to do this, I was going to have to do it on impluse and not allow myself to talk myself out of it. So I booked the appointment, had lunch with my mom and went to the salon.

I was so nervous when I got there, but I knew that I was helping a child in need. The salon that I went too, Edge Hair Design in Canton, Ohio. My stylist Ashley and the owner Patty were so nice! They measured the hair and next thing I know, my hair was cut!!! 9" was cut from my hair and they were going to send away for donation.

2 hours later, I was done. I had a new color, a new style and a uplifting feeling in my heart. I was able to give a child something that I had. It is a great feeling.

Pinterest

Has anyone else been on this site? Oh! My! Goodness! I am addicted!

I came across Pinterest because my cousin posted something on her Facebook page about a different way to fold clothes in your drawers. After looking at that, I found so much more stuff! And, now I'm hooked.

I have a section on my page that is for DIY things. I am a fairly craft person, or so I always thought I was. But some of the craft ideas on this site, make me look like an amature. And some of the home organizing tips are unbelievable.

So far, my 2 favorite things are the spice rack turned into nail polish holder:

And the curtain used as a Canopy for your bed:

I have also found some tattoo ideas and even some new nail art that I want to try. The design I have on my nails now came from Pinterest:

Well back to pinning I go!

Purple Rain

I am currently listening to the song Purple Rain by Prince. What a great song!!!

Speaking of Purple, I never really considered myself to be a "purple person". No, not a one eyed, one horn flying purple people eater, but a person who liked the color purple. Purple, to me, is a very girly color and I am not a girly girl. But as I think back about how much I have incorporated the color purple into my life, it appears that I might be a purple person.

I am currently in the middle of redecorating my bedroom. When I originally moved, the colors of my bedroom were teal, black and lime green. I found a comforter that I fell in love so I had to change everything. The new comforter was white and gray and it needed some other color to go wih it. Never in a million years would I think that purple would be the color. Purple and gray actually go well together, but to me, they never did. I went to IKEA this weekend (that is where I bought the comforter to begin with) and they had it on display and to my surprise, they paired it with purple! So I guess this non-girly girl is going purple!

The Beginning....

It was very hard for me to sit down and figure out what I wanted to write about. There are so many things that I would enjoy writing about, so picking one single topic was something that I just couldn't do. So, I will write about them all.

The idea for the blog started at the office. Working for a marketing company, I have access to many different marketing tools and I have the oppurtunity to learn about different aspects of marketing. Our most recent marketing tool that we are offering is blogging. While sitting in training on Monday, my wheels started turning. I've blogged before (I actually have an online diary), but I wanted a place that I can talk about the things that I'm passionate about. Everything from sports to doing my nails. I was talking to my coworkers and mentioned to them that I should start a blog. We were thinking about a few different ideas and one of us said that I should call the blog "That's What She Said".

After thinking about that (and laughing), we realized that this title will fit perfectly. Not only is it one of the phrases that I (and we at the office) use a lot in response to others, but this blog is based off of what I have to say. So the title fits my personality in more ways than one. Yes, when the title was mentioned, it was to go along with a joke, but it ended up being a perfect fit.
